Pre-School

A team of dedicated staff carefully plan to ensure your child has the opportunity to fully participate in the half termly themes that are chosen by the children. A holistic approach to play follows your child into this group with play being child-led, natural resources, using real food in home corner and small world play incorporating natural objects.

These activities aim to develop the whole child, based on the 7 areas of learning in relation to the Early Years Foundation Scheme (EYFS). Teaching is done in a fun way, with the emphasis of learning through play, offering a range of activities including open-ended resources.  Circle times include focussing on phonics, signs & symbols, Spanish, show & tell and drama.

Recent themes selected by the children in Pre-School have been Nursery Rhymes, Disney and The Weather and Seasons.

We actively encourage parent participation in many forms, including home observations, involvement in themes with their child – giving ideas or coming in to talk to the children, cooking ideas.

We also take small groups out to Stonebridge Farm, the Embankment, Rushcliffe Country Park and Wollaton Park as well as going to West Bridgford Park and Library in larger groups.  A higher staff ratio is always maintained to ensure the safety of the children is maintained off-site.

The Nursery Education Funding is available for all children the term after their 3rd birthday for 15 hours over 38 weeks. We offer a variety of sessions to support families including 9am-12 noon, 1pm-4pm as free sessions in funded weeks. We also offer an 8am-4pm day as well as full day care – these both incur wraparound fees.  All sessions are subject to availability.

From September 2017 when the 30 hour extended entitlement is in place we will be offering the entitlement in a different format.

The term before your child starts school we focus on “School Readiness”.  Activities are linked to being ready for school, building their enthusiasm to learn and self-help skills that encourage independence. Lots of information is held in our Parents Pages which is accessible when your child commences Nursery.
